Important: California Requirements Are Strict

California CDPH does not automatically accept training or exams from other states. You MUST complete training in California (or through approved distance programs) with documented hours. Simply passing ASCP PBT or NHA CPT is not enough. You need proof of the 20-hour didactic and 40-hour clinical requirements.

Violations of phlebotomy licensing laws in California can result in fines and criminal charges. Make sure your training program is CDPH-approved before enrolling.

Verify your program's approval status on the CDPH website before starting.
